Melody + Dustin - Calgary, Estevan Engagement Wedding Photographer

Baby Nolan and his family came by last Saturday. I just love maternity and newborn sessions. It is so amazing to see the family before and after the baby is born, knowing what a miracle has taken place in between visits.

Hey! I recently came across The Savvy Photographer and it is awesome! It is a blog that often features some really amazing photographers and giveaways and lots of other goodies. I am looking forward to scouring through this blog and new blogs to come!

The Holmgrens - Calgary Newborn Photographer

On Tuesday I spent the morning with the Holmgrens and their new addition, sweet Kai. Kai was due to be born by c-section on August 20, which would have made him just 5 days old at the time of shooting, but he decided to come a whole month early! We kept the same date for the session and Kai was still just a tiny little guy -- and so cute!

While Kai had a little snack I spent some time with his big sisters.

While I was in Saskatchewan I popped down to Carnduff to visit my brother and his family. I love taking pictures of my family and these two cuties made it pretty easy!

Okay, I just had to post this one because it makes me laugh every time I look at it. Owen wasn't happy and Avry just wasn't sure what to do. When she put her arm around Owen, he gave me this helpless look!

They were much happier getting their picture taken together later, in the comforts of home.

I got to spend a couple of weeks with this little lady and here are a few pics of our time together. Miss Luca just turned 4 months old. I love her so much! She came (with her parents) to visit me at my house and then we spent a week together at Kenosee Lake. I just love snuggling her and making her smile!

Wow, I have been completely absent from this blog for about 5 months. Is anyone still out there? After our move to Calgary, I spent a few months going back and forth between Calgary and Victoria and finishing up my work. I have been off since the end of January and I am finally taking clients again!

A couple of weeks ago we kicked off the season by making a trip out to Salmon Arm, BC, for Tim & Sarah's wedding. Their ceremony took place at McGuire lake under beautiful willow trees. It threatened to rain, and even thundered a bit during the ceremony, but we managed to make it through the entire day without a drop!

Sarah and Tim, thank you for having me be a part of your wedding day. I hope that you had a great time in Mexico!

Houle Family

A couple of weeks ago I met up with the Houle Family at the Ronald McDonald House. What a great session to be my first in Calgary. Eoin has been working hard against Leukemia, which he was diagnosed with when he was just 15 months old. If you don't already, you can keep up with Eoin here.

Eoin wasn't so sure of me at first but I think we became friends! We went to play and I almost got him to giggle!

And I was able to spend some time with Eoin's sweet little brother Eli! I just loved this first one!

Michelle & Jeff - November 22, 2008 - Victoria, BC

This post has been a long time coming! Michelle & Jeff's wedding was almost a month ago, in Victoria. They were married at the Wardroom.

Michelle & Jeff had it timed perfectly so that I could photograph Michelle getting ready and then head over to where Jeff and the guys were getting ready.

And if you have ever wondered what it is that guys do on the day of the wedding... here it is! And Vancouver won :) Go Canucks! (I have to yell that loudly now that I live in Calgary...)

Michelle & Jeff were my only couple this year to see each other before the ceremony. I loved it!

So we were able to do all of their pictures before the ceremony while there was still lots of natural light.

One of the trivia questions at the reception was "Which Vancouver Canuck does Jeff resemble?" Can you guess?

And even though it was November, we managed to snag a bright blue sky and a sunny day!

Here is the couple's first kiss as husband and wife. The sunset ceremony was beautiful!

Then we enjoyed an amazing meal and began dancing! Michelle & Jeff are so much fun!

Michelle's nephew was the life of the party.

Rosalee's ONE YEAR shoot!

My sweet little Rosalee will be one very very soon! I had the opportunity to fit in her last session of the Watch Me Grow package while I was in Victoria last week. Her mommy and daddy have an amazing house with amazing "props"! I told Lindsey that she could open up her own portrait studio with all these great chairs.

Watch how Rosalee has grown: newborn, 4 months, 9 months (we kind of got off track, that's okay!)...

Lindsey and I planned for some time to do part of Rosalee's one year shoot in their amazing bathroom.

The Roberts Family

What can I say about these guys? They were the last of the seemingly hundreds of family members that my husband Peter has that I met (you might have to read that sentence a couple of times). Since moving to Victoria in 2006, Peter and I have made many memories with this family and we love them dearly, and so does Eva. In fact, tonight Eva has this book that you press a button and the wheels on the bus song plays. She pressed it, started to spin in a circle (dancing) and said "Uncle Kirk". The song stopped, she pressed it again, started spinning and said "Auntie Viv". Not just anyone gets a dance in their name from Eva.

And that's just the mom and dad. The kids are all kinds of fun. I spent the last two weeks living with them and loved every minute of it. Joel, I love your thoughtfulness. Josh, your sarcasm and your rock band abilities. Jeremy, I love "the face" and how social you are. Beth, your gentle and quiet spirit and your desire to do what is right. You guys rock and I will miss you so much!

Oh and they have a dog Kia, but we forgot to bring her. Oops! She's kinda dumb, but lovable, in her own hair-brained way.

This photoshoot was a Christmas present from last year. I even gave them an expiration date to make sure that the kids made it a priority. It didn't stop them from leaving it until the very last possible opportunity! But we did it and I hope Auntie Viv and Uncle Kirk will be happy with the results :)

Chris & Carmelle - November 15, 2008

Chris & Carmelle's day was so lovely. First, let me say a big thank you to the both of them for taking such good care of me! I've never been so well-fed on a wedding day. Not only did Carmelle think to have box lunches packed for us, but she invited me to indulge myself in the amazing spread of food that she and her bridesmaids were enjoying. Tea sandwiches, sushi, fresh fruit and vegetables, delectable desserts, and whatever you could want to drink! It was amazing! But enough about food :)

As I said, Carmelle was getting ready at the Empress. What an amazing hotel. Everything there, floor to ceiling was inspiring and a photographers dream.

You may remember that I did Chris and Carmelle's engagement session at a winery, so I thought it fitting to take a shot of her ring on the cork.

And I didn't mean for there to be a wine theme, but this shot was taken with the ring in a fluted glass.

Many thanks to Jordan for lending me his 12-24mm. I love the wide-angle!

Jay+Renee - Engagement Session

I love engagement sessions! It is so much fun to work with a couple who is so in love. I met with Jay and Renee today (that rhymes a lot!) and the weather managed to behave itself yet again around my session time. Jay and Renee will be married on July 11, so today was exactly 8 months until their wedding day! I am looking forward to coming back to Victoria in sunny July for their beautiful wedding. Layna + Scott - November 8, 2008 - Olympic View Golf Course

I flew into Victoria earlier this week for a few weddings and some portrait sessions. The first wedding was Scott and Layna's at Olympic View Golf Course.

I haven't done this since my very first wedding! It was a lot of fun and I'm happy with how it turned out.

The leaves were so beautiful! These were leaves that my aunt found; no one could believe that they were real!

I thought this would be kind of a fun one for Layna + Scott.

Gracie - Toddler

This morning I went to McMinn park with Gracie and her mom and dad. I got quite the work out chasing Gracie around and having fun with her! I am so happy with the outcome of this session... which has been booked and re-booked quite a few times! I am so glad we finally found the right time!

She loved going into the woods.

Elizabeth - 3 months session

Sweet little Elizabeth really made us work for the smiles this afternoon! She loved me when the camera was put away but once it was out she was quite the serious little girl. She is such a sweetheart though, it doesn't matter if she's smiling or not!

After her session I got to hold her for a long time and she ended up falling asleep! I love this girl!

Jen & Scott - Wedding - September 13, 2008

I was away in Calgary all last week, but right before I left I shot Jen & Scott's evening wedding on the rooftop of the Swans Hotel, which overlooks the inner harbour. It was a great location! Their reception was held in the penthouse suite which was filled with such amazing art and antique furniture. I was excited to shoot this wedding from the very first meeting with the couple!

Ryland - Newborn

Danielle & Paul came by this morning with their little boy, Ryland. Ryland was born a few weeks early, then I was on vacation, and then I was sick last week! So I've been waiting a little while to meet this little guy. I was expecting a chunky little 5-weeker, forgetting that Ryland was a preemie! He surprised me by being tinier still than most newborns! At 5-weeks he is only just around 6lbs.

What a sweet little guy! He was pretty vocal, letting me know by giving me little grunts of disaproval when I moved him around: How could you be interrupting my nap? Well, Ryland, you were just too cute not to!

I spent the last Saturday of August documenting the wedding day of my friend Becky. I knew it was going to be a fabulous day, even if Becky had to miss the Backstreet Boys concert to get married. I think it truly shows her dedication to her new husband, Bryan. Becky pretty much gave me all the control when it came to picking spots, which was almost too difficult of a task! Everyone out here says Regina is ugly, but everywhere I looked I found these fabulous run-down, beat-up buildings. It was beautiful. It was so hard to choose! We did go to some "pretty" spots too, but I spent most of my time driving up and down the streets in the warehouse district, trying to decide which place I wanted to go.

Anyway, my lovely photographer friend Jessie and I met Becky in the Presidential Suite of the Delta hotel, which had some great light.

(PS - can you tell which one of the images from this post was taken with a Canon?!)

I have to admit that the iBecky and iBryan images are a bit of a (okay, a complete) rip-off of my favourite photographers theimageisfound. Bryan's sister had an iPhone with her and I just couldn't resist those shots!

I should mention that for this next one I was piggybacking Jessie to get the height I wanted. If only there was someone else there to take a picture of us!

I just don't know where to stop with these blogs do I? They just keep getting longer and longer. Since Becky is a friend of mine, I will post even more on facebook.

Tim & Liz - Wedding - Furry Creek, BC

I have been wanting to post this one for a long time... sorry that it has taken so long, Tim & Liz. To make up for the wait, I am posting a ton of pictures from Tim & Liz's August 17th wedding in at Furry Creek Country Club. What an amazing location!

But first: I was really into the rings that day, so here are a couple of favourites.

Baby Georgette

I am blogging a bit out of order, but I am out in Saskatchewan on my "vacation" (as I'm staying up late editing...) and unfortunately haven't yet sifted through Tim & Liz's wedding photos! It was a great day in Furry Creek, and such a beautiful wedding with a beautiful story. But that will come later!

When I got home from Furry Creek, after getting insanely lost on my way to the ferry, I took some pictures of my friends' newest baby, little Georgette. She is such a sweetheart! She was so sleepy too and she let me just snap away.

Georgette actually looks big on this bed! But she is under 7lbs!

I am having a great time with all of my family out here on the prairies. But it feels like time is going by so quickly!

My Girl

This is a monster Eva post!!!!!

I took a lot of pictures of my darling little one last week, despite this being my craziest time of the year... no make that, the craziest time of my life... EVER.

It was good to take some pictures for me. I really miss that. Although most of these pictures were actually taken for my mom, because she keeps bugging me for pictures since we live so far away from each other. But they were still for me in the long run.

Here she's eating cookie dough, or as she calls it, "tookie" dough.

Another day, we went out to this great spot that is just a few blocks from our house. It was fun.

She is very dramatic when she sniffs flowers.

Pete got this one. I love it.

"Where's your belly button?"

This one's a hit with all my friends.

When I bought her this dress, an image like the following one is what I had in mind for it.

And yet, another day, I decided to take some pictures of her sleeping and rem·i·nisce (I had to look that one up!) her newborn days!

Avyn

While we were at our family reunion in June I took these pictures of Avyn. She is the daughter of Pete's cousin Karl and his wife Helen. She is only 3 months younger than Eva, but literally, half the size! At 15 months she weighed only 16lbs (Eva is 30lbs at 18 months!). Avyn is such a little sweetheart. I wish we could have our little girls spend more time together!

These shoes are Helen's from when she was a baby.

I found this chair in one of the cabins and knew right away that I needed to take some photos with it. Avyn was happy to join in the fun!

Moving

I've been needing to do this update for quite some time now, but life has been pretty hectic--- We are moving to Calgary!

This move was a bit unexpected, especially since we just bought our house!, but it is something that we feel confident about and we are looking forward to it. We will miss our friends, family and clients here in Victoria.

Though we are moving to Calgary, we will still be available for weddings and portraits in Victoria. I plan to make working trips to Victoria for portraits and we will do weddings if you are willing to bring us out here!

Thank you so much to our Victoria clients for this past almost-year of business. If you know anyone in Calgary... let them know we are coming to town!

Conor & Kiera - Newborns

I went to spend the afternoon with Conor and Kiera --- oh, and their mom and dad --- to take their "newborn" pictures. Conor and Kiera are actually already 8 weeks old but these photos were taken before their actual due date!

What could be better than a newborn session? A twins newborn session! Maybe these two were too easy on me. Conor got so comfy in my wooden bowl with his snuggly blanket that he just slept the afternoon away while Kiera had her turn in the spotlight... and he kept on sleeping through the rest of the session!

Nathan - Newborn

He's here! Art + Rachel's little boy Nathan was a dream to shoot! Fortunately for me (not so much for Rachel) he has his days and nights mixed up, so he was pretty sleepy the whole time! Last Saturday I was hired to shoot second with Karen McNeil. Rob and Ashley had a beautiful wedding at the Old English Inn. Before the ceremony, I spent some time with Rob and his best men. This was my first time giving all my attention to the groom!

Dale & Michaela - Wedding

Michaela & Dale were married on Friday, July 25 and asked me to capture their ceremony and formals.

This car was Dale's dad's car. Dale had it repainted for the wedding and rolled up to get Michaela with some good oldies playing on the radio.

Michaela and Dale's 9-month-old daughter had a big job: flower girl and ring bearer! She was just too sweet in this vintage pram.

Chris & Carmelle - Engagement

When I first met with Carmelle & Chris it felt like we all just clicked. I was thrilled to be asked to document their wedding day! I had a few ideas in mind for their engagement session, and I especially wanted it to be good since it will likely be my last engagement session of the season! I finally settled on the idea of visiting a winery and ran it past Carmelle. She told me that they loved the idea and it completely suited them since they love fine dining and wine. I was definitely looking forward to the session and it turned out great! Carmelle & Chris were so much fun!

My friend Mikaela asked me quite a while ago to do a photoshoot as a surprise for her friend Sharon who was coming to visit from England. They met while Mikaela was travelling and England and they ventured together through Europe. During our shoot we toured downtown... but maybe not the parts of downtown that Sharon was expecting! A few of the locations were a bit grungier than most tourists like :) But we had a fun time!

Mark and Rachel were married on July 19 at the Interfaith Chapel at uVic. Mark and Rachel have such an amazing relationship and are high school sweethearts! I love documenting the full wedding day, not just because I get to tell the whole story, but because you get to know the couple so well. Mark and Rachel, thank you so much for letting me be a part of your day!

Meghan & Rommy were married on July 13 at The Westin Bear Mountain Resort. What a gorgeous location! It was such a beautiful day. I am always so honoured to be a part of such a special occasion.

I met Jeff & Michelle in Chinatown on Friday night. It was a gloomy day all day, but of course, they went away and gave me a beautiful evening to shoot in! Little Angus came by on Monday... and brought his parents with him! This little guy is such a sweetheart. Of course, most of you probably know by now that the babies just melt my heart! Well, Angus, aside from being incredibly cute, also had great hair!

Here he is in a Christening gown that his mother and his auntie wore when they were babies. I wanted to give this one a bit more of a vintage feel. He wasn't too pleased about being in a "dress" but after a while we did get this grin out of him!

Saturday was the day for engagement sessions! My first of two was with Rachel and Mark. We roamed Finnerty Gardens at uVic. What a beautiful place for photos! Kelly - Maternity

I had a very special maternity session on Friday afternoon with my good friend Kelly. Kelly is carrying triplets (a set of twins and a singleton) and had to be on bedrest from her 20th week, which is when we had originally scheduled her photo session. Unfortunately there have been a number of complications since then, and the smallest twin has passed away. I feel very fortunate to be a part of Kelly's pregnancy in this way, and thought it was such a great way to acknowledge her wee daughter.

The surviving brother and sister are still doing well and on the very day of our photo session, Kelly was officially 28 weeks pregnant. We have all been praying that she would make it at least that far!

Thanks Kelly (and Shaun!) for inviting me into this very unique time in your life. I am looking forward to our next session!

Website/Blog/Pricing Update!

Hello everyone and greetings from the new blog design! I have been working hard the last few days to update our website and blog and now I am finally finished! We have lots of new images up for you to see and some new galleries. You might see yourself there! I am really excited about how it looks and would love to hear some feedback from all of you :) So, tell all of your friends to check out the new website and make sure to send me an email or post a comment... I'd love to hear from all of you!

In addition to updating the website and blog, we have also updated our prices. We have now officially been in business for 5 months! We have loved getting to know so many awesome families and couples and look forward to photographing all of you in the future. As we have now been in business for five months, our introductory prices have ended and we will now be charging our regular fees. Don't worry, anyone who already has their session booked will still receive the introductory session fees :)

Now that the wedding season has started, life is very busy! I have now started a waiting list for portraits, so please don't be surprised if you can't get in until the fall :) I appreciate your patience and am looking forward to our sessions.

Graeme & Yvonne - Wedding - Victoria

This past Saturday, Peter & I had the honour of documenting Graeme & Yvonne's wedding.

The ceremony was held at the family farm under the shade of a large and beautiful tree. It was an absolutely perfect day! Warm weather, blue skies, not a cloud in sight.

The ring bearer carried this teddy bear down the aisle. I loved that one of the best men (there were two) held it for most of the ceremony!

Graeme is a fire-fighter so you can imagine how excited I was when he mentioned going to the firehall for some portraits.

Ty & Elena - Wedding - Vancouver

Last weekend I was in Vancouver shooting Ty & Elena's wedding. It was so hot! 32 degrees with a non-air-conditioned church full of almost 300 people! It was so beautiful though and Elena looked stunning! She & Ty looked so happy the whole day. I don't think I've ever posted this many pictures on one post! Peter and I went over to Vancouver on the weekend to shoot Tim & Liz's engagement session. The weather was scaring us a bit on Friday... it was so cold and snowing! I met up with friends Graeme and Yvonne yesterday to shoot their engagement session. It was another classic Victorian overcast day, perfect lighting for shooting. This session took place at Graeme's uncle's farm, the same place where they are to be married on May 24. I am definitely looking forward to their wedding day, especially with all this talk of formal pictures including horses and the firehall (Graeme's a firefighter). I had a hard time only choosing a few favourites, they are such a gorgeous and fun couple!

PS - This was my first shoot with the Nikon d300. Two thumbs up! Also, for the techy-nerds (like me!) out there who may be interested, I created a sweet black and white conversion action that has really been making it difficult for me to choose between colour and black and white! I am going to post the difference in the near future :)

I am back from my trip "back east" as they say here in Victoria. To me, Saskatchewan is still very much west! But I am back, nonetheless, and one of the first things I did was go and visit Dallen and his parents... and his dog who was less than impressed about being locked out of the photo shoot! When I first met Dallen, I immediately loved his smile! He is just so sweet and his eyes will absolutely melt you. He was so happy and easy-going, such a dream to photograph.

When I first saw these ones, I actually gasped, because his eyes were so stunning!

I love when they nibble on their toes!

I am flying to Regina, Saskatchewan tonight as my husband's grandfather has passed away. I will be gone until Saturday, March 22, so telephone might be the easiest way to get ahold of me if you need to!

Making Waves

My sister (in-law) came to visit last week and on Sunday we braved it out to Botanical Beach. It was cold but it was amazing! I first went there in August and the water was pretty tame, but on Sunday it was explosive! We could hear the waves crashing from where we parked the car, which is a 15 minute hike away. The waves were loud and crashing, and I loved trying to capture them... even with freezing fingers. I definitely need to invest in some mini-mitts!

Ty & Elena came over from Vancouver last weekend to do their engagement shoot. It was another one of those days where there was something like 80% chance of precipitation but we managed to have our session during a dry period. Nice! Susan contacted me a while ago about getting some family pictures while her sister was in town for Christmas, as a gift to their mother. Almost all of my favourite ones are black and white, except this adorable one of Danny.

Before my session with the Mann kids, I spent the morning with Alana & Bran. They were so much fun to photograph, they are the type of people who make a photographer's job easy! I had a lot of fun with them and there were so many pictures that I wanted to post! But this is all for now :) Enjoy!

It was just meant to be. All morning it rained. I just kept hoping that the rain would let up by 11:30 as I was to meet with Alana & Bran (sister to Dan and Matt, both of whom we saw earlier with their wife and wife-to-be) to do their session and then later we were to meet up with all of Alana's siblings and their spouses. All of the sudden at 11 o'clock, the rain stopped, the sun popped out from behind a cloud and instead of hiding from the rain we had to find shady spots to avoid the sun! Alana & Bran's shoot will be coming soon, but the family shots are a Christmas present for their parents. Merry Christmas!!

Baby Rosalee

I was privileged to spend some time on Saturday with 12-day-old Rosalee and her proud parents. What an itty bitty little thing! She wanted to stay awake for some of the shoot but when she fell asleep I was able to wrap her up. Her mom and dad have spent a lot of time in Africa and they had this great woven bowl for me to use. I am looking forward to doing more sessions with Rosalee and her family!
